  • Respiratory and Allergic Health Effects of Dampness, Mold, and Dampness-Related Agents: A Review of the Epidemiologic Evidence

    Updated: 2011-01-25 23:00:00
Conclusions: Evident dampness or mold had consistent positive associations with multiple allergic and respiratory effects. Measured microbiologic agents in dust had limited suggestive associations, including both positive and negative associations for some agents. Thus, while prevention and remediation of indoor dampness and mold are likely to reduce health risks, current evidence does not support measuring specific indoor microbiologic factors to guide health-protective actions. • Characterization of Conserved Combined T and B Cell Epitopes in Leptospira interrogans Major Outer Membrane Proteins OmpL1 and LipL41

    Updated: 2011-01-25 23:00:00
Conclusion: This work identified the combined T and B cell immunodominant epitopes in outer membrane proteins OmpL1 and LipL41 of Leptospira interrogans. OmpL1173-191 of OmpL1 and LipL41233-256 of LipL41 would be useful in a vaccine against Leptospira. The findings will further contribute to the development of effective cross-protective vaccine strategies for leptospirosis. (Source: BMC Microbiology - Latest articles)

EWG's article on hex chromium caught the U.S. environmental lab arena fairly by surprise and there seems to be a fair amount of scrambling to understand how best to respond. Though most labs aren't opposed to more work, the problem was that to measure hex chrom to the necessary levels, the only appoved drinking water method requires the use of an IC with post column derivitization. Now, the part of this that is a bit perplexing is that the USGS has had two methods which could achieve this l...
