Earlier this month we saw our friends across the pond show off their sartorial glory at the Golden Globes. e mainly saw an array of fantastic tailored dinner jackets (tuxedo in America). Below are a few of my favourite suits. hris Plummer, who won best performance of an Actor in Beginners, opted for a very traditional midnight blue dinner jacket with peaked lapels.

This post follows directly from the last in which we discussed how one could be classically dressed while being comfortable and unstuffy in a workplace with a casual dress code. Our reader is a recent graduate so cost is a factor. The wardrobe also needed to accommodate a large variety of social and work based [...]
I am often surprised by the number of friends and acquaintances of mine who admit to owning, though rarely using, a jacket constructed of denim. I am a monumental hypocrite in this regard, as I still own one bought earlier in my youth; one which I enjoyed wearing with smart black trousers, a white shirt, [...]
I'm not much of a footy fan. Whilst I'm sure this will come as no surprise to my fellow (English) man, it can provoke scorn, or at the very least the scratching of heads. In my formative years: 9yrs old - football terrace fashion interested me much more than football terraces, and I was quick to join those leading the charge in the fashion stakes even if it cost me every penny I'd saved - causing my beloved parents no end of grief resulting in me being banned from family holidays at the age of [...]

Wraps with suit pants or skirts make a great work outfit for casual friday. Wearing a wrap on a day when you're supposed to be in your snazy proffessional attire won't do though. A wrap would definately be considered business casual, and not formal business attire.

“You look like Inspector Gadget!” one friend cried as the other shuffled into his cream trench coat, flashing the Burberry check lining.
I always remembered this put-down as it reminded me of the frequent misfortune of iconic association; like those who hear Rossini’s William Tell Overture and think of ‘The Lone Ranger’ or those who point [...]

Whether it's client meetings, an interview, or business travel, sometimes the bag you carry with you is taken as part of your business attire, and it needs to be absolutely as well-thought-out as the rest of your outfit. You might just need a discrete clutch bag to stash your keys and cellphone, or you might also have to take a laptop, notebook or iPad with you, and dumping those things into any old laptop bag could ruin your carefully tailored look.
Piping on a suit jacket (or on any other garment) is a thin strip of fabric inserted into a seam so that it sticks out a little bit. The piping fabric can be of the same color, or a different color for contrast. It can be of a different texture, it can be leather or even lace.
Who would have thought that in a small country such as Scotland, there would be such a difference in tailoring tastes over the cities of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. It seems strange to me that, despite being only 45 miles apart, Edinburgh and Glasgow have such different tastes. Aberdeen may be 130 miles north, and could be excused for having such variance, but the Edinburgh/Glasgow style differences have really surprised me.In 7 short months, I have met a varied range of peo [...]

I am graduating college in 6 months, have had a few unpaid internships, and all of a sudden find myself with the chance at an incredible job. Bristol's local tailor may travel by coach (class) and not club these days, but he still feels it important to dress-up for the occasion of travel! As we approached NZ's Auckland runway I pondered whether I'd discovered the perfect travel companion - my wonderful partner and mother of my unborn child aside that is - my new linen jacket , flannel trousers and a summer checks shirt ensemble were just the ticket.
For over a year now I’e been travelling to the lovely but cold city of Newcastle to tailor some well cut suits. During my travels I've seen some really stylish looks from these cool cats up north and have bared witness to their infamous night life. Not to overstep London but Newcastle has one of the most vibrant night life’ in the UK and the young lads up here really like to mix up their jeans and t's with a well cut blazer. A fancy bla [...]
