Henley Royal Regatta
Updated: 2011-06-30 00:00:00
Having just had Royal Ascot, the next big event in the English social calendar is this week - The Henley Royal Regatta. A key part of the London ‘ociety season' for over 150 years, Henley, like Royal Ascot and the Guards Polo have certain sartorial rules and traditions which should be adhered to. nbsp;
These two women's business outfits both use orange and brown. These outfits use the same ensemble concept of open suit jacket with a top, rahter than a blouse, underneath. But one is very overstated and the other one is kind of understated. Which one you should wear, depends on your complexion and coloring - how much orange can you stand?
Two years ago, J J Abrams imagined the meeting of young Kirk and young Spock in his re-booted Star Trek; a brilliant piece of movie pre-history. Producer Bryan Singer and Director Matthew Vaughn, make an attempt to revitalise the X-Men movie series by doing the same thing with the mutants' warring.
I’m a big fan of polo shirts. Their pique weave makes them perfect for wicking away sweat during the long, hot summer months from July to September; they’re low maintenance; they suit almost everybody; and their collar serves to make them that bit smarter than crew or v-neck tees.
On weekends, the polo shirt is without [...]
Well here we are then, the final part in the series (follow the links for Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3). The suit is made and I couldn’t be more pleased with the result, particularly with regard to the trousers.
Indeed, the suit must have something about it as I wore it to a second [...]
We currently have the summer spectacular that is Wimbledon to enjoy for the next two weeks, come rain or shine. There is no specific dress code as there is at Royal Ascot or the Guards Polo , both of which I covered recently. However, this shouldn't mean you don't look your best.I think the combination of blazer and light trousers will work very well in this situation. If the weather gets too hot, remove the blazer and the light coloured trousers should keep you cool, especi [...]

Long time readers of Men’s Flair may remember that a while back I wrote of my desire to set up my own clothing label; and that the first product I wanted to offer was a perfect soft roll, button down, oxford cloth shirt.
This whole endeavour was dependent on two things happening. The first ‘happening’ was [...]
ere at A Suit That Fits, many of us are big fans of TED, so when London Business School had a TEDx day at the Bloomberg building, I snapped up a ticket. One of the speakers will be of particular interest if you’e into your textiles... Suzanne Lee, a unique fashion designer, combines her love of fashion with science, with bacteria-growing clothing. I’ n [...]
The Bride's dress is embroidered to perfection, the flowers are preened and the venue is dazzling. Meanwhile, the Groomsmen are looking stylish; their suits are tailored and pressed to perfection, their cravats folded and pinned exquisitely and the boutonnieres are held firmly in place.
Pairing an odd jacket with a pair of tailored trousers is a great way to look sharp but without the formality of a suit. Great for summer events where you don't want to look like you've just left the office.The general rule of thumb is to pair a darker jacket with a lighter pair of trousers . The classic combination would be a navy jacket with grey trousers. In the summer, white would look great, as shown below.
This week, the annual Pitti Immagine Uomo fashion event started. All manner of bloggers, journalists and style aficionados have been descending upon Florence for 4 days to photograph, experience and soak up the atmosphere at the most charismatic fashion event of the year. Although many artisans exhibit here hoping to promote their wares, I find the most fascinating part of this event is to see what the attendees are wearing. The outfits worn by the bloggers, fashion buyers and in [...]

This week I took my first nervous steps into the world of the bow tie wearer.
I say nervous steps because few things mark you out as a lone wolf amongst the sartorial sheep quite like a bow tie. Indeed, in any one year I can count on one hand the number of times I see [...]

Often quoted as the most versatile actor in Hollywood, Depp has been the man behind some of cinemas most iconic and flamboyant characters - Captain Jack Sparrow, Edward Scissorhands and Sweeney Todd to name but a few. nbsp;
One of the many perks of working with Mr. Flusser is that I come across very unique and interesting archive material. Case in point the photo below from the Japanese magazine Brutus originally published in 1983. What I love about it is how timeless the wardrobe is. You see nothing embarrassingly outdated, just good taste [...]
The great city of Liverpool began as a tidal pool next to the Mersey. It was probably called the ‘ifer pol' meaning muddy pool. There may have been a hamlet at Liverpool before the town was founded in the 13th century. It is not mentioned in the Domesday Book (1086), but it may have been too small to merit a mention of its own. King John founded the port of Liverpool in 1207.
London has been the centre of men’ tailoring for the last 2 centuries, with only Naples and possibly Rome and Paris coming anywhere close. At the turn of the 20th century, people looked to the royals of the day for style tips. Edward VII can be credited with creating what is now known as the Tuxedo or Dinner Jacket and making popular the fashion of leaving the bottom button on a waistcoat unbuttoned. Edward VIII can be attributed with making [...]

Cheeky chappy Olly Murs shot to fame in 2009 after a second place finish on the sixth series of The X Factor. He's since had a string of hits, a number two album and has rarely left our TV screens and magazine/tabloid pages. Once again, he's in the news following a shock announcement that he'll be fronting the Xtra Factor (ITV's behind the scenes show) over more experienced presenters who were in the running. But it's not just his music and TV career that create headlines - ever since [...]
