Spurred on by the recent 100 year centenary of International Women's Day we thought it appropriate to honour, 56 year old musician and living legend, Annie Lennox. With her status as one of the biggest selling artists of all time, comes the inevitable pressure of styling and image - something that seems so effortless to Lennox.
As a general rule wearing black and blue together is usually avoided and has historically carried the same level of fashion faux-pas as combining orange and pink in an outfit choice. But like all rules, especially fashion rules, they are made to be broken and if you can get away with it then you should make the most of it. You do however need the right attitude to pull off this colour clash especially when the outfit in question is a suit .
Here in the American South the flowers are blooming, the leaves are popping and the temperatures are rising. I decided over the weekend that it was time to put my winter wardrobe into storage. I won’t need those flannel suits or tweed jackets until the weather turns cold again next fall. By removing those items [...]

So what are the hallmarks of a Mad Men suit?

As colleagues and acquaintances take a keen interest in my attire, I often receive a running commentary on sartorial habits and likelihoods. The commentary ranges from the prosaic “I knew you’d wear black shoes when it was raining” to the possessive “I’ve seen you wear that shirt four times this month.” One of my favourite [...]

In the mode of the best dressers I set out some time ago to clear out, plan and simplify my wardrobe. In my view all the best dressed men share an aptitude for the simple; and as I’m sure you’ve discovered, the simplest things are often the hardest to achieve.
Well, I’ve largely achieved my [...]
Today, the 157th Boat Race will take place. Here in the wonderful city of Cambridge, where I am, the university goes head to head with Oxford , this afternoon, to try and win one of the most famous rowing race in the world. The idea of the race, between the two Universities, came from two friends: Charles Wordsworth of Christ Church College, Oxford (he was the nephew of the poet William Wordsworth and went on to become the Bishop of St. Andrews in Scotland) and his long-term fri [...]
On Saturday the 26th March, two of England's most prestigious universities will take to the water, for the ultimate ‘attle of the boaties'. Yep, the Oxford vs Cambridge Boat Race is just around the corner, and on Saturday, the banks of the Thames will be packed with rowing fanatics, Oxbridge students and alumni, and anyone who wants to cheer on the race.As an ex-Cambridge girl, my loyalties lie with the light blues, but whoever you're supporting, you'll need to turn up in something a l [...]
In recent days, we announced some exciting news with the purchase of Savile Row tailoring company, Sartoriani. On Wednesday morning, our growth was recognised in Metro's business section! Please take a look below...
Some call it the ‘dollop of whipped cream’, others consider it the only sensible option for a suit’s top pocket but all would be willing to acknowledge that the plain white pocket square is the most common adornment of its type. Even if a gentleman is wearing a blue shirt, pink tie and a grey [...]

In my eyes, the Prince of Wales check or Glen plaid as it is sometimes referred to, is one of the most underrated materials for suiting.Navy and charcoal will always be to me the most versatile suiting colours available for men. They can be easily matched with a vast array of shirts , ties and pocket squares in a variety of textures. They are suitable for interviews, business dress and will suit every skin tone. However, when worn in a non- business setting, it can look like you are wear [...]
American Gigolo (1980) stars Richard Gere as Julian Kay, an escort for wealthy women who is framed for the murder of one of his clients and the theft of her precious jewels. The movie was written and directed by Paul Schrader (of Taxi Driver fame) and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.

A number of stylish examples of male clothing and accessories can trace their humble origins to the military. One such item is the useful and ubiquitous duffle bag.
The first recorded use of the term “duffle bag” is credited to the poet E. E. Cummings who used it in a letter he wrote in 1917 while [...]
With my documentary shorts “New York Secrets” in full swing I’ve had barely any time to think up clothing posts. Never one to ignore the how and why this blog earned it’s readers, I am going to try and balance filming, editing, and producing alongside the core essence of Made To Measure, NY. I’m really [...]

A true style icon of mine and the quintessential Italian dandy is, the industrialist heir, Lapo Elkann. A man with such a strong sense of style and character, that it is difficult to compare him with anyone else in the public eye.
Over the weekend I popped in to see my shirt maker Erlend at Stephan Haroutunian Shirts – now shortened to Stephan Shirts, presumably because no one can pronounce the surname. It is a bit of a mouthful.
One of the nice things about what I do is that many of the people who run the independent [...]
These very dapper gents are the perfect picture in their new dinner suits . They look great in a pure wool D7 a light-weight cloth that feels eally oft to the touch, perfect for looking sharp on their pecial day. A half-width, notched collar (‘kinny' collar) that works really well on a dinner suit, teamed up with slanted flap-less pockets, which follow the urvature of the body, with a double vent allowing the jacket to curve tself arou [...]
This week saw the arrival of the Cheltenham Festival in the sporting and social calendar. Typically a spectacle of racing and indulgence, the festival culminates to one of the biggest races of the season - the Cheltenham Gold Cup, which is today!Nowadays racing has to share the limelight, with fashion often taking centre stage, infiltrating the media column inches way beyond the racing post. The ‘adies Day' has become a huge feature of the racing meets, injecting colour and furth [...]
Today is St Patrick's Day, which is a day dedicated to the patron saint of Ireland. Here at A Suit That Fits, we are sporting our green attire to celebrate the Emerald Isle, we're donning our green pocket squares and David, co-founder of A Suit That Fits , is wearing his green, silk two-piece suit . Check out the picture below.
I'm Helen, the latest addition to the A Suit That Fits team. I've joined the marketing team, as Junior Marketing Executive. My ultimate style icon has to be Marlene Dietrich with her long pointed collars, big lapels and signature top hat. This typically male style of dress is however subsided by her femininity; her perfectly curled hair and killer cheekbones. A true style icon. Dietrich was one of the first stars of the silver screen to consistently reinvent her look - decades [...]
It's tough if you're a groom gearing up for the big day (and we're not just talking about Prince William ). If your spouse-to-be has turned into bridezilla obsessing over her dress, then it's only a matter of time before she turns to what you're wearing, making sure everything down to the last cufflink matches the wedding ‘heme'. And even if you've got your wedding outfit is under control (good for you!) then choosing what to wear can still be tricky, especially if you want to stand [...]
