1982 - New Jersey franchise was officially named as "Devils" in fan balloting. "Blades", "Americans", and "Meadowlanders" were runners-up in the contest.
1992 - After an arbritation victory Philadelphia officially acquired Eric Lindros from the Quebec Nordiques, in exchange for Peter Forsberg, Ron Hextall, Mike Ricci, Steve Duchesne, Kerry Huffman, a 1993 First Round Pick (Jocelyn Thibault) 
Sad news today as Milton, Ontario's community newspaper confirms the passing of former NHLer Enio Sclisizzi. He was 86 years old.
Sclisizzi, who was famously dubbed "Jim Enio" by famed play by play man Foster Hewitt because he could not pronounce his name, played in 81 NHL games back in the late 1940s and early 1950s. He played most of his career in the AHL.

1972 - Bobby Hull signed with the Winnipeg Jets of the WHA, in Minneapolis, Minnesota for $250,000 a year for 10 years.
1991 - Ted Green was named as the new head coach of the Edmonton Oilers, replacing John Muckler

1975 - Montreal Canadiens obtained Doug Jarvis from Toronto, in exchange for Greg Hubick.
1989 - New Jersey Devils signed veteran Soviet defenseman Viacheslav Fetisov.
1993 - The Ottawa Senators used the first overall pick at the NHL Entry Draft to select Alexandre Daigle.
1998 - Toronto Maple Leafs named Pat Quinn as their new head coach
1999 - At the 1999 NHL Entry Draft in Boston,
1925 - Montreal Maroons signed Nels Stewart.
1979 - Chicago Black Hawks agreed not to claim Real Cloutier from Quebec in the 1979 expansion draft, in exchange for a future first round draft choice. They later used the pick to take Denis Savard.
1993 - Dallas Stars obtained goalie Andy Moog from Boston in exchange for goaltender Jon Casey.
1993 - Hockey Hall of Fame announced the newest
1975 - Los Angeles Kings signed free agent Marcel Dionne from Detroit, along with defenseman Bart Crashley. The Red Wings obtained Dan Maloney and veteran defenseman Terry Harper as compensation from the Kings.
1998 - Don Waddell, the former assistant GM of the Detroit Red Wings, was named the first General Manager of the expansion Atlanta Thrashers.
1999 - Hockey Hall of Fame announced
1938 - The Montreal Maroons withdrew from the National Hockey League.
1977 - John A. Ziegler Jr. became the fourth president in NHL history.
1979 - The Edmonton Oilers, Hartford Whalers, Quebec Nordiques and Winnipeg Jets joined the National Hockey League, as the NHL expanded to 21 teams for the 1979-80 season. The World Hockey Association ceased operation.
