1920 - Quebec's Joe Malone set an NHL record with seven goals in a 10-6 win against Toronto.
1923 - Canadiens beat Hamilton 5-4 in Montreal, in the first penalty-free game played in NHL history.
1968 - George Konik became first Penguins player to be awarded a penalty shot, and he scored a goal against Glenn Hall at St. Louis. But Pittsburgh lost 9-4 to the Blues.

1932 - Toronto broke a 3-3 tie with three overtime goals, to beat the Rangers 6-3 at Toronto. In those days, overtime was an extra 10 minute period, not "sudden death".
1937 - New York Americans' Nels Stewart became the NHL's All-Time goal scoring leader, when he picked up his 270th career goal to surpass Howie Morenz, as the Americans beat the Montreal Canadiens 4-0.

The photo above is of the 1952 NHL All Star Game program. It is one of a couple dozen All Star items up for auction currently at Classic Auctions.
In addition to the interesting collection of programs available, there also some interesting All Star jerseys up for grabs, including Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux.
1940 - Chicago's Les Cunningham scored five points in one period to set an NHL record that held up until 1978 (when Bryan Trottier broke it). Cunningham had two goals & three assists in a span of 10:04 during the third period of an 8-1 win over Montreal.
1984 - Los Angeles Kings' goalie Markus Mattsson led the Kings to a 4-2 win at Edmonton, and stopped Wayne Gretzky's NHL record point scoring
Prior to the creation of the annual NHL All Star game in 1947, there was four benefit/memorial all star hockey games played:
Hod Stuart Memorial Game, 1908, Montreal
Ace Bailey Benefit Game, 1934, Toronto
Howie Morenz Memorial Game, 1937, Montreal
Babe Siebert Memorial Game, 1939, Montreal

1955 - Detroit's Gordie Howe took 19 shots against Rangers' goalie Gump Worsley, who made all 19 saves against Howe in a 3-3 tie in Detroit. The Red Wings outshot the Rangers 31-18 (which meant that Howe outshot the Rangers 19-18!).
