Filed under : 2009 Reports Fishing Reports Print This Post I had the great fortune of joining an enthusiastic crew of smallmouth bass fishermen on the Potomac River this past weekend . The plan was to kayak stretches of the Upper Potomac . We encountered high muddy water but were undaunted in our efforts to coax some smallies out of the chocolate milk colored waters . We fished current breaks and eddies behind big islands and fished the same types of water behind small flooded river points along the bank . These location proved to be productive given the difficult water . conditions We stuck to big dark tubes and shallow running crankbaits with rattles . A spinnerbait would have probably worked equally as well . We landed several

Well I recently purchased a Wilderness Systems Ride 135 so I had to test it out this weekend . This report is really a compilation of two days of fishing on a section of the Juniata River that has both largemouth and smallmouth in good numbers . I even ventured up a tributary to stick this 21.5 in inch largemouth you see pictured I caught plenty of smallies too In two days of fishing from my kayak I caught 15 largemouth and 11 smallmouth bass . Not big numbers but I’m still getting used to fishing out of the kayak . I find myself wasting a lot of time trying to get my gear organized . This is only temporary till I get a system down . I’m sure it will eventually be an awsome fishing machine The first day of fishing was done under extreem overcast conditions with some drizzling rain here the there . The feeder creek I fished and the main stem of the

It’s easy to catch smallies when the water conditions and weather is idea . This day was not as easy but we still managed a few smallmouth bass in the high cooling and muddy . waters Often we learn the most when the fishing is tough . Yesterday was definitely an exercise in fishing humility . My son and I discussed strategies on the drive to the river . We knew the water was going to be high but we did not know what type of water clarity we would encounter . When we crossed a bridge near Alexandria , PA we saw ever fisherman’s worst fear . High chocolate milk colored water . We were actually pretty darn excited because
