Zucchini and Bacon Scrambled Eggs Recipe
Updated: 2010-04-30 05:42:26
I made this last night when we didn’t have much time for dinner, but wanted something tasty and healthy for dinner. It makes enough scrambled eggs for a family of four.

1/4 cup of Water
2 x shredded/grated Medium Zucchinis
1/2 diced Capsicum / Bell Pepper
1 x diced Brown Onion
4 x Bacon Rashers
1 tablespoon cooking oil

As we close out the month, we have a few things to celebrate: the end of April showers and a reason to drink margaritas and eat great Mexican food – Cinco de Mayo! Despite the fact that Cinco de Mayo is not really observed in much of Mexico, most will agree that it’s difficult not [...]
Some of the highlights of my wife’s recent visit home was that she’s spent quite a bit of her time learning to cook authentic Turkish food. Over the three weeks she was home she got to share some of those recipes with us and now we get to share them with you.
This recipe for flatbread (gozleme) is one that…
Today is a very bittersweet occasion here at the CbsoP campus. It marks the end of the most remarkable time that we have had as a family in our new home and the beginning of something greater. It was a day full of laughter and tears. It was a time for new … [visit site to read more]
I have a sneaking suspicion that the week I spent at the IACP Conference in Portland will be life changing. I made new friends, met online pals in person, and learned from some of the best in the business. And I ate. A lot.
Before the conference started, I visited the Oregon Food Bank, where I [...]

Take it away, Cheryl…

One of the best parts of having my wife home for a visit is that she is also an excellent cook. This has not only given me a much needed break from the kitchen, but has given the entire family a perspective on cooking that is different from my own.
While my cooking style tends towards Asian influence with go-to…
(An update from the archives: I’ve recently remade this recipe with more honey than originally called for. The result was amazing, so I thought I’d share the recipe again.)
It’s simple. It’s easy. It’s wonderful. It’s… Homemade white bread, and it only took a few minutes of actual work to make perfectly the very first time. Trust me folks, if…
Here’s a lovely recipe for chicken cooked in barbecue sauce. It is an easy oven recipe. Season and brown the chicken on the stovetop, then place it in the oven smothered in that wonderful sauce. Yum!
Chicken in Barbecue Sauce
Ingredients:
1 – 2½ to 3 pound chicken, cut into pieces
½ cup flour
1½ teaspoons salt

It always makes me so proud when people think that I have useful tips to share. It’s much better than thinking that I blabber into cyberspace without helping anyone! I was pleasantly surprised to see that a few of my tips made it into a new book, Dinner for Busy Moms, by Jeanne Muchnick.

Take a look at the picture of this cake. Looks good, right? However, it didn’t taste as good as it looks.
Well, at least I didn’t bake the actual cake. The foundation of the cake are ladyfingers and it is frosted with chocolate sour cream frosting. It is topped with chocolate shavings. I made the [...]
It surprises me that I haven’t blogged much about my experience with DooF – but the time has come. What? You don’t know what DooF is? It’s “food” spelled backwards, of course! And it’s also the multimedia company that I am lucky to consult for. We are making a fantastic-funny-silly-entertaining-amazing food show for kids.
It’s been [...]
Before someone asks, the name of this dish was coined my wife. When I asked her what I should call it for the post, she answered immediately “Surprisingly Wonderful Broccoli Slaw with Sesame”, so there you have it.
But of course there’s a story leading up to that point:
Earlier today I asked my wife if she would like some…
Wine tasting… whisky tasting… tequila tasting? As a matter of fact, yes! Sunday’s SF Chronicle featured an article on the tequila surge. Tequila has been the fastest-growing liquor category in the nation for years now, and the Bay Area is on top of it. California accounts for 23% of tequila consumption in the world, the [...]
My wife is currently visiting for her incredibly overdue mid-tour visit from her post in Turkey and, as is common for homecomings, she came bearing gifts for both myself and for the kids. For the kids was a wonderful assortment of Turkish memorabilia. for me she brought the ultimate gift. (Herself of course!) Spices and a Turkish cookbook!…
Many thanks to Erin, who shared this fantastic post from her blog, One Particular Kitchen.
Some of my very favorite kids came over to play yesterday — a nine year old boy and 5-year-old twin girls, and of course two year old Kiddo, who is a permanent fixture. The girls’ favorite game at my house is, [...]

This hot-cold-hot-cold weather has got us all thinking about the earthquakes that have peppered the season and I need a little comfort! While the sun is out in San Francisco, the air is still cold on the skin, so why not make this soup to help warm you up? Now you know Parties That Cook [...]
This is part 2 of our second task force meeting on school lunch reform in the San Rafael City Schools.
I’ll start this post with an apology. It isn’t going to be funny. Not even a little bit. And that makes me sad.
Given the horrible financial state-of-affairs in our local school district, it is hard to [...]
Add the word “underground” to anything and it instantly makes you feel like you’re a part of something special, something secret – somehow you’ve immediately upped the coolness factor. Of course, “underground” also connotes something that functions outside of the law. Foodies have been relegated to finding sneaky ways to get around the law with [...]

Here are my two recent food discoveries. The first one was that drizzling olive oil on broccoli rabe, after you finish cooking it, dramatically improves its taste. So, here is the plan:
- Boil it first, for about 5-10 minutes.
- Saute in olive oil, with pepper flakes and garlic.
- THEN dress with even more olive [...]
Here is an excellent way to use up any leftover rice you have in your fridge. If you make Beef Stir Fry and Broccoli Stir Fry and make rice as a side dish, you will probably have some rice leftover in the fridge. Don’t throw away that leftover rice - you can make this fabulous [...]
Every time I make meatballs, the recipe I use is slightly different. For example, for my minimalistic meatball recipe, I use just a few ingredients in addition to meat. In this recipe I also used an egg to hold the meat and other ingredients together, but no bread crumbs or Parmesan cheese. Sounds pretty simple, [...]
I’ve done it! I have discovered a great method to make food fun for kids (and their parents!). And the best part? It’s versatile, and you can use the technique to serve all types of foods – from breakfasts to desserts!
I never thought I’d do a photo tutorial for you, but here goes. Oh yes [...]

Where do you get your produce? Or rather, how far does it travel to get to you? Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is becoming more and more popular as consumers become more aware of these questions. CSAs provide high quality, organic, locally farmed produce to consumers, support local farms, and reduce costs for both farmers and [...]
Well folks, this week is starting out on an incredibly high note. I just got word that my wife has pushed her mid-tour visit up and will be home by the weekend!
I can’t tell you all how much this means to both myself and for my kids. Life as a military family can be stressful, and those stresses exist…

Bok choy is one of my favorite vegetables. It’s versatile, it’s flavorful and my kids love it. In fact, it’s third in line of favorite sides in our house, beaten only by corn and brussels sprouts. (I know, my kids are strange.)
Bok choy also manages to stand up well to heavy flavors without giving up its own…
