  • An Introduction to Rails: a Quick Blog Part 3

    Updated: 2012-10-29 06:50:27
In this third and final part, we do a bit of work on the view and give it that "blog look," as well as add some super-simple authentication.  The blog is no longer "technically" a blog, it really is a blog, through and through.

  • What is the Difference Between 'alias' and 'alias_method'?

    Updated: 2012-10-29 05:37:34
Ruby has this...  thing called 'alias.'  It'll create a second name for a method (or other things), but it doesn't really fit in with the other Ruby-isms.  It's a keyword and not dynamic at all.  But there's also an 'alias_method' method that does (almost) the same thing.  Why are there two?

  • An Introduction to Rails: a Quick Blog Part 1

    Updated: 2012-10-16 22:18:01
It can be really difficult to know what to do when you're first starting.  When you first get your feet wet with MVC frameworks (as I did with Catalyst in Perl, quite a long time ago now), it's hard to know where anything goes.  This short two-part tutorial should help you out then, the first part deals with installing Rails, a (very) short tour of the directory structure, what MVC is and how to start a server.  Part two will actually build the blog, stay tuned!
