    Updated: 2012-02-28 09:07:46
I have written some serious software for adaptive systems in a very short period of time, but thinking about the problem space, and visualizing the model? That took a couple of years. I'm sure that Linus was thinking about this problem for a long time before he started writing code. Much like Einstein's verdanken (virtual) experiments that allowed him to come up with the theory of relativity (how long does it take to write E=MC^2?), it is the visualization/conceptualization process that takes the most time in any breakthrough development. - Rubberman
