Hence, if you throw one of them into the dustbin, the carbage in there will at average contain about as much mercury as the soil your home is built on.
Ah well, and by the way, this mercury free battery may contain as much mercury as a mercury bearing fluorescent lamp!

Wind Power Sector in Turkey in Take-Off

Installed wind capacity in Turkey reached 2,000 MW by late 2011, according to Professor Tanay Sidki Uyar of Marmara University. There has been strong and accelerating growth in the sector since 2007, when capacity was just 147 MW.
New supportive legislation and an increase in the feed-in tariff at the end of 2010 and a government commitment to 50,000 MW of wind connected to the grid by 2020, are encouraging further growth. The government’ immediate target is to have 5,000 MW of that wind power capacity grid-connected by 2015.

For decades, televisions were ridiculed by environmentalists for their energy drain. However, in the last decade, technological advances have reduced the energy consumption in flat screen televisions by as much as 60 percent.
One of the key drivers in this reduction is the use of light emitting diode (LED) bulbs to “backlight” the television. The technology, which was introduced by Sony in 2004, became available on a mass scale in 2009 and has accounted for much of the increase in energy efficiency.

Development of wind power has been important in recent years and this trend is expected to continue. More and more, this source of energy represents a significant share in the energy balances of several European countries. But variability of wind power remains a major challenge of this technology. For example, a wind turbine can start producing in the middle of the night when electricity demand is very low. Statistically, we can also observe that production of wind turbines is slightly higher at night than during the day.
