Here are a few vendors offer the same product, but notice that the costs are quite different.

William Lensch Home Archive About Policy Search this Blog Let StemCONN ring Bookmark in Connotea This week I attended the first hopefully of many StemCONN meetings in Connecticut . Several states have now moved around the federal restrictions on human embryonic stem cell research funding by providing their own grants . California has without a doubt received the most press for their efforts , a situation that derives from being first and promising the most money 3 billion bucks in total That said , California's efforts are also famous because of the drawn out court battle over actually handing out some money . Other states , including Connecticut , have started to hand out smaller sums , to less fanfare perhaps , but actually signed , sealed , and delivered . People are doing stem cell research with Connecticut funding . Some weeks ago , Connecticut handed out nearly 20 million dollars in its first round of funding and the StemCONN meeting was a showcase of that accomplishment . The first day was dedicated more to policy than science and focus groups worked on issues such as interstate

Stem cells can self-renew or differentiate into a number of different specialised types . Their role in cancer is still not fully understood but it is likely to be significant . Is the role they fulfil something specific of developing organisms or are there equivalent roles in traditional ecosystems It is known that in certain species of fishes , individuals can be female one season and male the following one meaning that they have keep their potential to differentiate and perform different functions . In some ant colonies , all the females

One of the talks I attended yesterday was given by Heiko Enderling a researcher at Tufts University School of Medicine . His talk on breast tumour growth makes the assumption that there is a niche of cancer cell with stem cell-like properties that are responsible for sustaining tumour progression . That is still a highly controversial . hypothesis The cancer stem cell hypothesis mentioned also in a previous post assumes that a subset of the tumour population is either made of stem cells gone bad or differentiated cells that acquire stem-cell like properties like limitless replication . The therapeutic consequences of this hypothesis are important : removing most of a tumour is useless unless the surgery takes out the stem cells that will , otherwise , replenish the empty space again rather . quickly Talking with Heiko after his talk the idea I have now is that the stem-cell
