    : : VMware a CraZy PeNguIn For my official blog visit www.acrazypenguin.com Previous Next 0 Stopping a VM gone crazy Posted by aCrazyPenguin Dec 27, 2009 Sometimes a virtual machine which has gone crazy can't be stopped via the VI Client the task simply . hangs There are a number of options to stop the virtual machine from within the service . console Option 1 Stopping the virtual machine by issuing the : command vmware-cmd vmfs volumes path to vm This must be done on the ESX host where the virtual machine is . running Option 2 If this command does not work , try adding the extra parameter hard vmware-cmd vmfs volumes path to vm hard This will try to kill the virtual machine . instantly Option 3 Another way to stop the run-away VM and gather some logs for later analysis is to ssue the : commands vm-support x note lower case x' to list the running virtual machines and their World ID vm-support X This will then prompt you with a couple of questions , run a debug stop of the VM , and create a set of log files which you can be used to troubleshoot why the VM went crazy Option 4 A final option is to kill the PID process ID At the console , type the following : command ps auxfww grep The
