  • Contaminated

    Updated: 2014-03-31 14:19:18
Hi! I was reclaiming about 500 lbs of clay in the past few days. While I was kneading, i noticed tiny tiny bits of plaster, wood, and other foreign contaminates   Is it possible to save this clay or would it be easier just to chunk it all out and start fresh with new? also. is it possible to clean a contaminated clear glaze? Thanks everyone

  • Stacking Cone 6 Greenware In Bisque Firing

    Updated: 2014-03-31 03:08:37
I know you should be able to stack greenware for a bisque firing without incident -- but I'm always afraid to - mostly because I'm afraid that my cone 6 porcelain plates and platters will not stay flat. Generally speaking the shape doesn't change in my bisque firings (05 or 04) - but because I prefer to use fairly thin slabs to create my work, there is sometimes warping during the glaze firing. Technically and intellecturally I know it is unlikely that cone 6 porcelain (Tuckers Bright White) will move in shape during a cone 04 or 05 firing...but still I hesitate. I would love to stack - to get a bigger load of bisque done at once. Would love to hear others experience with stacking (and when I say stacking, I just mean stacking two plates or platters - not a half dozen!)

Around the 10th century it crossed the Mediterranean, influencing Italian and Spanish potters. A layer of colored liquid clay, called engobe, is applied on a leather […]

  • Throwing multiples, without losing your mind.

    Updated: 2014-03-26 01:53:32
I remember how I felt about this many years ago. And I commonly hear other potters express this sentiment. Something along the lines of "Ugh! Making multiples of the exact same pot sounds like torture!" Don't worry, the torture is only a phase. There is a point when it becomes bliss. The difference is skill level. If throwing one pot to exact dimensions involves a mental strain, then doing it many times will cause serious brain cramps. But when you [...]
