: Monday , May 30, 2011 Pourin Plaster Wedging Board Taking advantage of the nice weather I decided to pour my new wedging block . There is a ton of information on the web about what to use , how to do it etc . I take it all with a grain of salt and forge ahead . It's not going to be in MOMA , it just has to function . nbsp I saw an idea from a Ceramics Arts Daily video from a studio tour and she had a great idea . She created a small well at the end of the wedging area to pour slip into to dry up . So- I gave it a try . It came out very well and now I will let it cure for a week or so before using . It will be part of a new small studio set up in the . house Pottery Plaster , Drill Jiffy Mixer , Water Used a plastic bin lightly sprayed with oil with some sand under it so it is level and
Hey, its been a long time since I’ve had any sort of contest here. So here goes. The first person to correctly name who made the pots in the following photograph will win a paper cut. (If one of the pots is yours then you can’t participate, sorry) Good Luck.
I was going to title this post “I’m a Cutter” but I didn’t want my therapist getting a bunch of calls. I got my scalpel, blades and cutting mat today!! So I dove right in and did a few cuts. Oh, I haven’t mentioned this have I? Right, well I got a bit interested in [...]
I worked all day yesterday decorating 20 or so pots. It was a nice day so I worked out on the porch. I had the layouts penciled in on most of the bigger pots so it was just getting down to the etching and carving. Spending 8 hours just on decoration for 20 pots [...]
I’ve an exhibit installed at the Cornelius Arts Center. The opening is Friday, March 25th. All the work I put into this really payed off! I had been stressing so much while making this work. Too much coffee and too much worrying. In the end it all came out well!
I’m [...]

It’s that time of year again when landscapers, yard enthusiasts, and garden connoisseurs alike come together to showcase the newest and best of what the landscape industry has to offer. Boise Pottery will once again have a booth full of pottery on display for the public to view and purchase. We offer a huge selection [...]
This form, for some unknown reason, reminds me of a volcano. Maybe somewhat of a Mount Fuji against a lake so the bottom portion is the reflection. I’ve had to refire this because the first firing the glaze was too thick and flowed onto the foot. I filed off the overflow glaze [...]
I’m gradually playing around with more fluid, loosely shaped forms for the crater glazes. This is a basic cylinder/funnel type form that was twisted towards the top 1/3. I thickly applied the crater glaze so it would flow and be somewhat reminiscent of lava or hot glass. My question to y’all is [...]
Here’s another angular styled vase that I used the textured glazes on. So what do you all think about using simple shapes and forms for these types of glaze surfaces? Do you think they are good combinations or do you think the forms ought to be more detailed and complex? Enquiring minds [...]
I love flower bricks! Their origin, at least what I’m familiar with, comes from the Dutch. They made vases shaped like a brick and about the same size, put some holes in the top to hold flowers, then glazed them with a majolica type glaze and decorated them with a cobalt pigment that [...]
I’ve been working with color development this past month. Combining color combinations to see if I can get depth and complexity in the surface. I’m loving some of the results! These forms are kept simple so the glaze can be enjoyed without having to compete for attention with the form.
Here’s a much taller piece that has a great color combo and good glaze flow. I really like using simple shapes to compliment these glazes and colors. Scandinavian design is the biggest source of inspiration for me when it comes to form. The surface tends to be from natural sources-bark, lichen, moss, [...]
Here’s the latest in glaze firing successes! I’m quite pleased with how this turned out. I particularly love the pink/chartreuse combo and organic surface quality of this glaze!
I’m glaze firing daily now so more will come!
Sometimes I feel like Goldilocks at the three bears cottage. I either apply my glaze too thin and it looks awful or I apply it too thick and it comes out looking like these three pieces! No matter how many times I record the application process there’s always one or two kiln loads [...]

Thanks to everyone who came out to visit and to buy pots this past Saturday. It was a very good day for me and I’m thankful for all the support and patronage. Turnout for the sale was very good despite the cloudy skies and bit of rain we had. www.youtube.com/watch?v=47APthL80P0 This cute guy was very [...]

: Tuesday , May 3, 2011 Triangulation Just finished throwing an order for 20 triangular shaped bowls . They are to be used as centerpieces for a luncheon . As per standard operating procedure for custom orders , I have made extra 4 or 20 Custom orders always have some issue so it's better to over throw and prepare for the accidents that can occur . Of course when I am just making things with no specific order in the pipeline nothing goes wrong . These pots are not near the end of their journey . Bisque Prep- Glaze Re-Fire Pack and . deliver drying on top of a warm kiln The dangers that lie . ahead one or two might yield a crack could drop one loading into the kiln glaze job gets messed up general kiln god sacrifices NOW I CAN REST Posted by P.Bridges at 8:01 PM 2 comments : Juliane said .
It’s spring and time for the pottery I’ve been working on all winter to be moved to the kiln. Here is my favorite place to work, a studio space next to my kitchen–close to the coffeepot, and radio w/ WJFF, my local public radio station playing most of the day. Usually, Thelma and Louise, [...]
