I’ve not been kind to the forces for ethanol. I’ve pointed out that demand for ethanol raises the price of food for poor people, how I’ve felt the pinch personally in increased prices for homebrew supplies, how the use of ethanol is wasting scarce water resources. Finally, I pointed out that ethanol actually [...]

There are no words to describe the lunacy here, and corruption is the only reasonable explanation. George Soros is invested heavily in this Brazilian oil company -- Petrobras. Now imagine if Bush had done this and we found out that, say, James Baker was heavily invested in Petrobras -- what would happen? This is incredible -- I await an explanation, but until I get a better one, I will assume corruption. 2012 is too long to wait, but it looks like we're stuck for awhile -- at least in 2010, we can throw some of bums out.

  • China -- on the verge of economic greatness

    Updated: 2009-08-20 14:24:42
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/14/world/asia/14china.html?_r=1 One of the most interesting developments in the last 20 years has been China's development in the global economy. One day the old guard will be the new...what? Will they be guards r proponents of a new style of capitalism which provides more freedom for the people of China? China is already an economic powerhouse, and if they instituted more liberal policies internally, they could be a modern economic wonder which would transform global international relations. The clash between capitalism and communism within China s something many never expected, and the outcome might obliterate any lingering Marxist influence and strengthen apitalism's influence in third world countries. At a time when the U.S. is doing everything possible to strangle capitalism, it would be wise to watch the developments in China and India.

  • Examples of attacks from the left

    Updated: 2009-08-20 09:21:09
http://www.reason.com/blog/show/135523.html Well, we've heard all the bad and crazy things said by the right against the left, but what is the left saying? Matt Welch at Reason has been keeping a log, and it's not pretty. The left is coming unhinged. The funny thing is that most of them don't see the irony and hypocrisy -- they think their version of reality is the mainstream version, and that they are merely exposing crazy people. A lot of people are havng a hard time accepting the public's disgust with government in general. I see this as a positive turn of events, if, that is, this movement is truly about the abuse of government power, and not just a collective cry for a ompetent government that knows how to control more efficiently. The danger with this type of turmoil is that it's fertile ground for real tyrants -- if people are protesting because they want more control over their own lives, then -- bring it on!

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32470364/ns/world_news-south_and_central_asia/ I am for leaving, but if we're going to stay, the only way to make it work is to take the country over and make it a part of the U.S. These silly half-measures in this third way of war will only put our men and women at risk for no good purpose. We have no idea how to identify, isolate and defeat the enemy, and the people are not ready for sovereignty. There's no national cohesion and no understanding of statehood. Since we are not going to take over the whole country and do what would be necessary to enforce stability -- mainly because it would be weak control based on coercion, and it would require actions the U.S. rightly will not take -- hen we need to patch what we can and get out -- it's a losing proposition for the U.S. and a perfect situation for those who hate the U.S.
