  • New look rod licence brings benefits to anglers

    Updated: 2009-02-27 13:32:01
From 2nd March anglers buying their 2009/10 rod licences will notice a few changes – the most obvious being the licence’s new look. The Environment Agency has ditched the old fashioned paper licence and opted for a modern water resistant credit card sized licence – creating the look and feel of a club membership card. The licences also feature fewer personal details to reduce the risk of identity fraud should the licence be lost or stolen. The new licences are still available through the post office, online, over the phone and by direct debit, but will no longer be issued on the spot. Instead, each customer will be given a unique reference number at the point of sale, which will allow them to fish immediately. The licence will arrive in the post within seven days. Short term licence holders – one and eight day licences – will no longer be given a licence. Instead they must take their reference number along with them which can be checked by a bailiff if required. For more information about fishing in England and Wales visit www.environment-agency.gov.uk/fish.

As a follow on to the big story we ran in Carp-Talk 749 about Chad Lakes Home Pool becoming open to all as from the beginning of March, we can reveal that there are still a few dates available this coming spring (March, April, and May). The former syndicate lake allows a maximum of four anglers on it at any one time, and a 50% deposit is required at the time of booking. For further information, or to book your session, contact Dave or Gay Ayres on 01451 831470 or email: info@discoverycarp.com.

Home Forum Tackle Shop Carp Fishing Blog A Community for Carpers Feb 19 Tackle theft at Zwolle 2009 lrd on February 19th , 2009 Source The famous Dutch carp show held at the Ijsselhallen in Zwolle last weekend was visited by anglers from all around Europe . It was , however , marred by the theft of several thousand pounds worth of top flight tackle taken from the main exhibition hall on the Friday night just after exhibitors had finished setting up their stands . Top angling company Hardy Greys was particularly hit hard by the thefts with bespoke rods and other items of tackle stolen , including the new prototype Hardy Goldbow . The new rod , designed for the Dutch market , was stolen prior to the Show on the evening of 6th February . Andrew Sowerby , international sales and events manager for Hardy Greys said : I am sickened by this theft . As it is a prototype , this specific example of the rod is of little value , even worse , anglers had travelled several hours to the show specifically to see , handle and discuss the Goldbow this is exactly why anglers go to shows . This rod , together with a number of Marksman Coarse rods were stolen . The Goldbow is clearly identifiable by

Home Forum Tackle Shop Carp Fishing Blog A Community for Carpers Feb 19 Korda’s new lake Gigantica lrd on February 19th , 2009 Source In September 2008 the venue which used to be known as St Christophe was bought by Danny Fairbrass of Korda , and subsequently he changed the name to Gigantica . Earlier this week it was revealed that Angling Lines is to be the exclusive UK booking agent for this venue . David Keep of Angling Lines revealed : Danny has many exciting plans for the lake and we will keep you bang up to date as they happen . You can watch a video clip on the Angling Lines website in which Danny explains the plans he has in mind for Gigantica . Without doubt one of the main improvements he has made is to reduce to 12 the number of people who can now fish the lake . The previous owners allowed up to 26 anglers , something we never agreed with , but we had no say in the matter . This reduction will inevitably mean better fishing , both in terms of comfort and chances of catching . Some other Angling Lines news is that Croix Blanche is to receive some new stock . The big-fish venue recently received a new batch of carp from Michel Bigot’s reputed fish farm . David Keep added
