This is what a PG wants to do in a situation where they have an open lane to score. Skills Jumping, clutch. Players Yourself Instructions When you have an open lane, drive in. Start in one of the corners inside the three point line, somewhere between 10 and 13 feet. Make 10 shots then rotate until you made 10 shots in both corners, wings and the top of the key. Then repeat the process around the three point line. Skills Mid-range and three pointers. Players 1+ Variations Pump fake and relocate to your spot. Tips Make sure you’re stepping into your shot (correctly – left right if right handed or right left if left handed) and try to get your shot off as quick as possible without messing up your form.

Works great. Skills Conditioning and jumping. Players 10 -14 Instructions Split team up into 2 groups, and send 1 group to one side and the other group to the other side. (Best with about 5 at each hoop). Both groups should have a ball. 1st player in each line throws it at the backboard and runs to the opposite side to do the same. The rest of the players follow. Go for 1 minute. Rest for 30 seconds. Repeat 8-10 times. Variations Go for 2 minutes, and count it as 2 times. Tips Make sure your players tip the ball in the air.

Northwestern's problem winning big under Carmody is that they play half a game. They are superb shooters and ball handlers, but they just ignore the down-and-dirty parts of the game - rebounding and physical defense. They are like Wall Street bankers trying to play against tough kids from the neighborhood. When you only use half the game in trying to win, you leave yourself very little room for error.

Wisconsin' defense was just ridiculously good this year. Opponents shot just 38.9% overall and 29.4% from the arc. Add to that the fact that they had only 9 turnovers per game and play at a slow pace, and the other teams really had to make the best of the few opportunities they got against them.

Shields' improvement

It appears to me that Steve Shields is continuing to grow as a coach. The last couple of seasons he has displayed much more flexibility with his teams, while preserving the core principles of his basic game. Will Neighbour is going to provide some very interesting opportunities for him as a coach, given his unusual package of skills. With Michael Javes as a bona fide defensive enforcer in the middle for the first time in years, the same will be true on the defensive end.

Remember Savannah State, who back in 04-05 did not win a single game - the whole season? Well, keep an eye on them next season. They were 21-12 this past season and won the MEAC regular season title. They should return their entire roster next year, including five starters that will be seniors.
